It has been 25 years since Lara Dutta won the Miss Universe crown, but May 12 holds even more significance for the diva as it is also her father’s birthday. To honour the day, Lara chose to celebrate with a puja ceremony alongside her parents. She took to Instagram to share a few glimpses from the ceremony, as well as some nostalgic throwback photos from the pageant.
Expressing her gratitude for the love she has received over the years, Lara wrote a heartfelt message, “Yesterday was a day of roller coaster emotions... the 12th of May... a significant day in my life! Not just my Dad’s birthday, but also the day I won Miss Universe, 25 years ago! Time certainly flies!!! I marked the day with a puja to celebrate my father's life, knowing how fleeting and fragile life is. It’s important to acknowledge and be grateful for the gifts the universe bestows upon us. Thank you for the love and for your companionship over the last 25 years!”

In 2000, Lara made history by becoming the second Indian to win the Miss Universe title, following Sushmita Sen, who claimed the crown in 1994.
Following her Miss Universe win, Lara went on to star in numerous Bollywood films, including Masti (2004), No Entry (2005), Bhagam Bhag (2006), Partner (2007), Housefull (2010), and Chalo Dilli (2011), among many others.
On the work front, Lara has been cast in the much-anticipated drama Welcome to the Jungle. This sequel will reunite her with Akshay Kumar after their collaboration in the 2021 film Bell Bottom.
Directed by Ahmed Khan, Welcome to the Jungle features an ensemble cast that includes Raveena Tandon, Suniel Shetty, Disha Patani, Aftab Shivdasani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, and others.
