Did you ever imagine the film would be such a success?
I didn't think it would have such a big impact. Yes, it was clear that if a good film is made, it will reach people. It was clear that if a good film is made, people will like it. If people come to see it, they will like it. But the impact it had on people, I never thought it would be like this.

It is like the Dhurandhar of Gujarati cinema
Dhurandhar came and stunned the nation. Our film took Gujarat by storm. There is no comparison to it, but it is my first film. And people liked it so much. People saw it so much. And for the first time in Gujarati cinema, so many people came to see it. So much footfall was generated in the theatre. Some theatres which were closed in Gujarat came to life with Laalo: Shree Krishna Sada Sahaayate. The single screens, they all came to life.

Would it be right to call your film the Dhurandhar of Gujarati cinema?
There is no comparison because there are different types of people who like to watch different kinds of cinema. Some people like films like Dhurandhar. Some people like to watch Laalo (kind of) films. Both the films were a hit.

How did your film germinate?
Earlier, there was no spiritual story. Earlier, it was like, a man is trapped. How will he come out? Because we didn't have a budget. So, we were like, let's shoot on one location. What can we do in that? So, we were thinking and thinking. Then we thought that they bring the Bhagwat Gita into the plot. Why is he trapped? What would be his problem? How is that man’s mindset? What are his deeds? We started thinking about all that. Then, it came organically.

Lord Krishna is portrayed as a friend in your film
The question is, how do we converse with God? So, it was a very basic thought. How can we talk to Him? When we are alone, we talk to ourselves, to our God. So, it was just a basic concept of Lord Krishna as a friend to a man trapped in a home.

How did you cast the two actors Karan Joshi and Shruhad Goswami?
First of all, they were my friends. So, when we were talking, we knew that we had to do something together. We knew each other for years. And we decided to work on a project. But, somehow, it didn't happen. I now have 2-3 scripts in mind. Let’s see how I move forward. After a success like this, it becomes difficult.
