The powerhouse of fashion and beauty is returning to the bay for FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week 2022, and it has a lot of creativity in its sleeve. The city of dreams will experience an exciting chapter hosted at Mumbai's renowned, new landmark site - Jio World Convention Centre between October 12 and October 16 following the first physical edition held in Delhi in March 2022. The five days of fashion will honour the spirit of the partnership between FDCI and Lakmé Fashion Week with displays and collaborations with powerful designers, brand partners, and the best talent the sector has to offer. The festival will be off with a magnificent opening presentation by fashion designer Anamika Khanna on October 11 and will come to a close with the Lakmé Absolute Grand Finale on October 16.
Designer team Shantanu & Nikhil took the stage for the first day of FDCI X LFW with a history of draperies and silhouettes for fans of everything modern. Kriti Sanon became the star of the event for designers Shantanu and Nikhil, who debuted their Capella bridal collection at the runway show. We can't help but lose our calm after Kriti posted a stunning video of her entrancing walk on Instagram. Kriti is incredibly graceful and self-assured, as evidenced by her flawless walk. She was wearing a stunning Shantanu & Nikhil outfit that was perfect for her. The creative team presented a stunning collection of luxurious designs for modern brides in advance of wedding season. Kriti, meanwhile, strutted down the runway wearing a shimmering lehenga ensemble covered in glitzy highlights and tone-on-tone embroidery.
The designers claimed that their most recent collection was inspired by the magnificent chandeliers from the Baroque Era. The stunning example of this was the attire Kriti wore, which was a show-stopping outfit. Her outfit featured a sensual blouse and a lavishly adorned, billowing lehenga. The short blouse had a plunging neckline and an inverted hem, and it was covered with embroidery and other embellishments. The dupatta's cape-like design enhanced the bridal ensemble's contemporary attractiveness. With glowing makeup that featured luscious lips, subdued smoky eyes, and sculpted brows, the actress looked stunning. Her flawless hair, parted in the centre and left open, provided the ideal finishing touch to her jaw-dropping appearance.
The couturiers moved onto an adventurous path when they went into nostalgic opulence by revisiting the Baroque Era’s majestic artefact – The Chandelier as their inspiration. With this brilliant object of layered artistic lighting as their guiding beacon, the collection also unveiled layers of design creativity for each ensemble. The marked intricate beauty of baroque leaf motifs appeared in the embroidery for many of the creations. Since the early 17th century era displayed exaggerated styles and forms; the “Capella” collection stated true to the theme. The designing duo paid colourful homage to neutral off-white then moved to rich mint gold and brought in staid charcoal that was also seen at times in the interiors of Baroque palaces. To suit the requirements of the Indian bridal season, Shantanu and Nikhil unveiled magnificent lehengas encrusted with crystals and jewel stones. Tiers were accentuated by tulle and veils that brought forth a sensuous lavish quality of that era. An embellishment that was extremely eye-catching came in the form of Baroque lace embroidered in Dori work.
Men’s wear featured all the characteristic design sensibilities of Shantnu and Nikhil, as draped kurtas, salwars, loose pyjamas, narrow pants along with buttonless sherwanis, bundgala jackets and bundies made a quick appearance on the runway. A touch of the western jacket came in the form of a one-button version, at times, worn over a sheer embroidered kurta. Interesting additions were, the wide lapel, dolman sleeve, cropped jacket, as well as some cool embellished sweaters for formal wear.
Closing the show with great style and elan, Kriti Sanon made a grand entry wearing an exquisite, white bridal lehenga with a luxurious tulle trail, edgy bustier and Baroque lace embroidered in Dori Work, edged tulle dupatta. The tonal embellishments were majestic in the technique of craft for the gorgeous trio of ensembles. For designers Shantanu and Nikhil, the “Capella” collection pointed to a new haute couture realm, where their creativity was aimed at being more anti-trend. But it was a collection that buyers will cherish as it will turn into heirloom pieces as time goes by.
Shantanu and Nikhil added, “When designers work on a collection, it’s a process very similar to directors working on a movie. Most of the journey towards making this collection was getting to that point where you feel great and excited about what you are doing and Capella is that space where we wanted to revisit our love for the European fabrics, the chandeliers and the old-times but revisiting them with a new interest. We have always said less is more for us but with this collection we decide to go beyond, use of Swarovski jewellery and the whole extravagance it brought along was very exciting to us.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Kriti Sanon has a couple of projects lined up. Kriti will star in Adipurush alongside Prabhas and the film is all set to release on January 12, 2023. Apart from that, she will next be seen alongside Tiger Shroff in Vikas Bahl's action film Ganapath. Later, she will be seen alongside actor Varun Dhawan in the horror comedy Bhediya. She also has the film Shehzada with actor Kartik Aaryan Clearly; Sanon has a bunch of films in her kitty.
