Reflecting on the evolving landscape for women in cinema, Kriti shared while speaking to Business World, “We have made considerable progress. The roles that are written for women are meatier now; they are no longer seen through a man's lens. Women artists are also picking meatier roles; not just the coy, damsel in distress roles. They are not afraid to lead a film and such movies are doing well at the box office, and all this gives us more confidence to essay such roles.”
She added, “I myself tend to get attracted to strong characters that have an identity of their own. For instance, in Tere Ishk Mein, the character Mukti was not all white or black; she had shades of grey. I got excited about a project like Do Patti also because I felt it had so many shades to both characters.” Her words underline a clear shift towards nuanced storytelling, where female characters are no longer one dimensional but rich with complexity, ambition, vulnerability.
Looking ahead, Kriti is set to headline Cocktail 2, a project that is already creating strong buzz. Directed by Homi Adajania, film also stars Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna.
