Kota Factory, one of the most widely recognised youth dramas from The Viral Fever (TVF), has completed seven years since its release, continuing to hold relevance among audiences. First released in 2019 and directed by Raghav Subbu, the series has built a strong following for its grounded portrayal of student life.
Set in Kota, Rajasthan, known as a major coaching hub, the show follows the journey of Vaibhav, played by Mayur More, a teenager who moves cities to prepare for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) with the aim of securing admission into the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Through its narrative, the series explores the pressures, aspirations and realities faced by students in a highly competitive environment. The ensemble cast also includes Jitendra Kumar, Ranjan Raj, Alam Khan, Revathi Pillai, Urvi Singh and Ahsaas Channa. Among them, Kumar’s portrayal of Jitu Bhaiya emerged as a defining element of the show, resonating strongly with viewers.

Kota Factory also stood out for its visual treatment, becoming India’s first black-and-white web series. Though originally shot in colour, the creators opted for a monochrome format to reflect the intense and often isolating experience of aspirants in Kota. Over the years, the show has received critical and popular acclaim, earning awards across categories such as Best Drama, Story and Technical Excellence at platforms including the IWM Digital Awards and IIFA Digital Awards.
The milestone also highlights TVF’s broader success in the digital space, with recent projects like Panchayat continuing to attract audiences. With a strong slate of upcoming shows and films, the production house remains a key player in shaping India’s streaming content landscape.
