In an episode of The Filmy Hustle, hosted by distributor-exhibitor Akshaye Rathi, Mandvi Sharma of Tree-Shul Media Solutions and Gautam Thakker of Everymedia shared their behind-the-scenes experiences in the world of content marketing. Mandvi explained how she ended up becoming the publicist of superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
Mandvi Sharma said, “I was sapped out of the energy of being an entertainment journalist. As we moved towards yellow journalism and sensationalism in the news, I became increasingly dissatisfied. I don’t blame anybody for it. It is just the need of the hour for many people to gain traction. But it wasn’t for me.”
She added, “Mr Khan is that person who’ll make you believe that you can do anything. So, when he said, ‘Come, be my publicist’, it was very hard to decline that offer. I learned everything literally (from him). There’s an apprehension for a journalist to turn publicist because, as a journalist, you are a completely different beast altogether, but as a publicist, you shed a lot of that layer and become this very diplomatically correct and tactful person; I am still learning to do that after 14 years in this field!”
Mandvi continued, “I got to learn a lot. The man is a rockstar of a boss. So, it was a blessing to have him as my first boss when I switched gears.”

Gautam Thakker observed, “Shah Rukh Khan is perhaps the best marketing guy in our industry. There’s no doubt about it. Look at every campaign that he has done, right from the beginning. I got a chance to work with him on Ra.One (2011). He’s a university in himself. If he had not been an actor, he would probably be heading the world's largest advertising agency!”
Recently, a fan wrote on Twitter that before @iamsrk, Shah Rukh Khan’s original handle was called ‘@picsrk’. Months before this tweet was posted, Mandvi Sharma in the podcast revealed, “The first time SRK made his Instagram account, he forgot his password! He wasn’t interested at all. But the second time, he gave it another try. He was like, ‘You know what? If I made the account, I need to do it right because look at the number of people who are following me’.”
