Kiran Rao’s sleeper-hit film Laapataa Ladies seems to be going places and ever since its OTT premiere, many of them have taken to social media to shower praises on the heartfelt entertainer. Set about two decades ago in the northern part of rural India, the film traces the journey of two newlywed brides who are interchanged while travelling in a train to their respective villages. On the other hand, Animal, which has gained momentum ever since its release last December, was accused of misogyny and demeaning women at several occasions.

Kiran Rao, on Thursday, May 23, took to her Instagram page to share an interesting post she came across which claimed that the viewership of Laapataa Ladies on the streaming platform Netflix has surpassed the viewership of Animal. The filmmaker dropped two emojis of shock, followed by a clapping GIF reacting to the post which she also shared on her story. As per a Binge report, the viewership of the Kiran Rao directorial enjoyed 13.8 million views, leaving the Ranbir Kapoor starrer behind. However, the position of highest viewership continues to be retained by Fighter with 14 million views.

Speaking about what transpired between Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Kiran Rao, the Animal director stated in one of the reports about an ex-wife of a superstar, who is also a filmmaker, commenting on Baahubali and Kabir Singh by addressing them as ‘misogynistic’ in nature. On the other hand, Rao asserted that she has never watched any of Vanga’s films.

Coming to Laapataa Ladies, the film featured Pratibha Ranta, Deepak Sharma, Nitanshi Goel, and Ravi Kishan, in lead roles along with a host of characters in supporting roles. On the other hand, Animal starred Ranbir Kapoor in the lead along with Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Triptii Dimri in key roles.
