Kartik Aaryan recently opened up about his experience of working on Imtiaz Ali's 2020 film Love Aaj Kal, which paired him with Sara Ali Khan. Despite creating substantial buzz prior to its release, the film underperformed at the box office. In a candid conversation with film critic Sucharita, Kartik shared insights into his preparation for the dual roles he played and reflected on the film's reception.

"Two Characters, Two Eras, Two Challenges"

Discussing his preparation, Kartik said, "There were two characters I played in the film. One belonged to the 90s and had an innocence and naivety that I really had to imbibe. I also had to lose weight for that role. There were many little details, like how that character would blink more often or do robotic things. His questions were unusual—things one wouldn’t typically ask. I worked a lot to bring out those nuances."

"I Still Stand By That Film"

Kartik defended the film, saying it had its merits and did not deserve the intense criticism it faced. "I believe there was merit in the film. I still stand by it. I think certain aspects were blown out of proportion right from the day the trailer dropped," he said.

He also highlighted the film’s commercial achievements. "Love Aaj Kal was one of the biggest openers of my career at that time. That silver lining made me happy. Even today, I receive compliments for my performance in the film." However, he expressed disappointment about its overall reception, adding, "I feel it deserved more."

Speaking of the professional front, Kartik recently delivered a hit film at the box office with Anees Bazmee’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. The actor has a couple of films in his kitty, including Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 and a film with Anurag Basu.
