Saif Ali Khan may well be the ‘Nawaab’ but it is Kareena Kapoor as the Queen bee who certainly knows how to have her way. While she has made no bones of the fact that Saif’s production house is pretty much her own, the results are now evident. Current developments on the film’s promotion have pretty much indicated that she is getting her fair share of credit even though Agent Vinod is supposed to be an out and out hero-centric film.
First step in this direction is a newly designed poster from the film that now features various looks of Kareena with Saif nowhere in the picture. Pun intended.
“This is a very new development and has come as a surprise for many out there”, says an insider with a surprised tone, “Have you ever seen a woman holding centre-stage in a testosterone driven Bond or a Bourne film? It is always the central protagonist who hogs all the limelight. Let’s admit it, even out there in West, for movies of such genre a leading lady is merely a decorative piece. However, Kareena has ensured that all set rules are broken here.”
No wonder, the poster introduces Kareena Kapoor as Iram and features her various looks right from being the ‘mujra’ girl to a spy to a girl next door and then also the diva that she is known for. With a collage of as many as 11 stills from the film, this is indeed a new for Bollywood as well and pretty much establishes the fact that when it comes to professional decision, Saif as well Kareena are taking a practical call here.
“When you have Bollywood’s Number One heroine in your film, it would be foolhardy to hide her presence”, comments a PR expert, “How important is Kareena to the film’s overall scheme of things would be known only after it is released. However, till then you have to take advantage of her superstar appeal. For someone who has delivered four successful films in a row (Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, Ra.One, Bodyguard, Golmaal 3), it would have been sacrilege to keep only Saif Ali Khan on the forefront.”
On contacted, Sriram Raghavan said, “This was always a part of the plan and not a last minute decision. Kareena is very important to the film and you would realize that when you watch it.”
One wonders whether Aamir Khan would be as gracious once the promotion of Talaash kick-starts.
