Kareena Kapoor Khan has always been in the best of shape and has served as an inspiration. Her size-zero look was talked about a lot. However, when she was expecting Taimur, she piled on a lot of kilos and the transformation shocked many. However, what was also appreciated was the fact that she was completely unapologetic about it and was enjoying the phase. The actress has revealed some interesting trivia about this aspect in her book ‘Kareena Kapoor Khan's Pregnancy Bible: The Ultimate Manual for Moms-To-Be’, co-written by Aditi Shah Bhimjyani.
Kareena Kapoor Khan says that she would gorge on pepperoni pizza, samosa, pani puri etc during her pregnancies; reveals that “Rujuta Diwekar would FIRE me left, right, centre”During her first pregnancy, Kareena had a relatively easy time as she didn't battle sickness. But her second pregnancy was quite tough. Yet, she says that one common strand between the two pregnancies was her obsession with pepperoni pizza! She also said, "When not pregnant, I love being vegetarian. But I got ravenous for meat while pregnant and craved cold cuts, salt and soy. It was as if I was another person."
Kareena Kapoor Khan then revealed that when she was expecting for the first time, she loved "demolishing one pizza after another" at her favourite local restaurant, Out Of The Blue, much to the disbelief and embarrassment of her friends! When she was pregnant with Jehangir aka Jeh, the lockdown was in place. Since she couldn't go out to dine, she would order, believe it or not, pepperoni pizza twice or thrice a week from Ray's Cafe & Pizzeria, Bandra, Mumbai.
All this took a toll. Her fingers swelled and she was not able to take a ring. During her second pregnancy, she said that "I took off my rings by my eighth month. Forced to choose between my pepperoni and my wedding ring, I chose pepperoni!"
Kareena was 25 kgs up when she delivered Taimur and 19 kgs up when she was pregnant with Jeh. She wrote that her nutritionist, Rujuta Diwekar, was not happy with her conduct. She revealed, "While Rujuta was firing me left, right and centre, I was busy killing it with samosas and many rounds of pani puri from Punjab Sweet House."
However, Kareena also added that she didn't eat junk food and exotic food throughout her pregnancy. Rujuta Diwekar recommended she start the morning with a banana. For breakfast, she'd have poha, upma or two idlis. While expecting Taimur, she was off caffeine but during her second pregnancy, she couldn't do without her morning chai.
Kareena also mentioned, "I am a desi girl, that too a proper Punjabi at heart." She said this to explain that she would eat roti, dahi, dal and subzi every day in her meals. She also said that except bhindi, she liked all green vegetables. She also had cravings for south Indian food and also enjoyed simple Maharashtrian dishes like varan bhaat. A fruit or chaach is what she’d have between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm and her after-dinner sweet treat was homemade yoghurt mixed with dry fruits. Dinner was mostly fish or chicken, rice and a vegetable side dish. On some occasions, she replaced rich with pasta.
Kareena's husband Saif Ali Khan, too, treated her with delicious dishes. She wrote, "He cooked me Chinese, Thai and Malaysian and was in the kitchen twice or thrice a week". As for her must-have 'pregnancy food', it was the mutton and paya soup prepared by her cook at home.
