The special screening of Brown turned into a memorable family affair as Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan came together to support Karisma Kapoor ahead of the release of her much-awaited series. The neo-noir crime thriller marks Karisma’s return to a lead role, and the screening saw her family cheering for what is being described as one of the most challenging performances of her career.
Directed by Abhinay Deo, Brown features Karisma Kapoor in the role of Rita Brown, a troubled detective investigating a string of murders while battling personal demons from her past. The series has already generated curiosity among audiences, with its dark tone and intriguing premise.
At the screening, Saif Ali Khan expressed his admiration for the project and revealed that he had witnessed Karisma’s preparation for the role firsthand. Sharing his thoughts, the actor said, “I have seen the trailer, and I love it. It is so well shot, and I am so excited, as Karisma has been talking about this show for quite a long time. I saw her preparing, rolling her smokes, and how she is playing an alcoholic slightly different from her own personality but I am really excited to see it because I think it is going to be really, really cool.”
Kareena Kapoor Khan was equally enthusiastic while speaking about her sister’s comeback and the risks she has taken as an actor throughout her career. Praising Karisma and the series, Kareena said, "It is so nice to finally see Lolo, the absolute ’90s queen, back on screen. It is a role that is very different for her. Karisma Kapoor has been the dancing superstar in Raja Hindustani and all those classic films; I think this part for her is very, very different. She has given her heart and soul to it, and I feel she will be spectacular. The trailer, the way Abhinay has shot it, is very, very interesting, and I am really happy that Lolo actually took the plunge. People try to do roles in their comfort zone, but Karisma has always tried to do things differently be it with Fiza or Zubeidaa, she has always pushed the envelope and has been such an inspiration for me and so many other people.”
Kareena’s comments highlighted the admiration she holds for her elder sister’s willingness to experiment with unconventional roles, a quality that has defined several phases of Karisma’s career. Apart from Karisma Kapoor, Brown also stars Surya Sharma, Soni Razdan, and Jisshu Sengupta in pivotal roles. The crime thriller is currently streaming exclusively on Hindi ZEE5.
