Karan Johar has shared his thoughts on The Devil Wears Prada 2, which recently released in cinemas, and his review reflects both nostalgia and admiration for the film’s contemporary themes. The filmmaker attended the first India screening of the sequel in Mumbai and later took to social media to express his views.

A self-confessed fan of The Devil Wears Prada and Meryl Streep, Karan Johar described the original film as deeply nostalgic while noting that the sequel resonates strongly with present-day realities. He particularly highlighted how the film addresses the shifting dynamics between traditional print journalism and the growing dominance of digital media.
Reflecting on his experience, Karan wrote, “I walked out more in love with Meryl Streep (if that was possible) and understanding the pursuits of Miranda Priestly... even though she was a tough leader, even though she was aesthetically judgemental and raising eye-brow elitist to a fault…. But I understood her for her chase to attain excellence and perfection….”
The filmmaker also acknowledged his emotional connection to the original film, stating that he chose not to compare the two, given the lasting impact it has had on him over the years. At the same time, he emphasized that the sequel stands out for its commentary on contemporary issues.
“This sequel speaks of our times, the (sadly) emerging irrelevance of serous journalism (sic)… The digital overdrive Mania that is eating into the beauty of print… the powerlessness of the artistically powerful forces at the hands of corporations… the need for consolidations over ideations… all that in a Comedy? Yes… That's the solid strength of Part 2, it makes u think of the travesty of our times," he said.
Summing up his review, Karan added, “Miranda is more vulnerable, Andy is more hopeful… Nigel is more amiable, and Emily is just wonderful! I ate my popcorn and sat back on my red hot seat and went back to my 33-year-old self who believed that visions can't be replaced by vendors!!! That's all…”

The sequel sees the return of Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci alongside Meryl Streep, reprising their iconic roles in the high-stakes world of New York’s fashion industry. Directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the film revisits the universe of Runway Magazine with a fresh narrative.
Backed by 20th Century Studios, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is currently playing in cinemas across India, drawing attention from both fans of the original and new audiences alike.
