In a recent statement made at the Times Now Summit 2024, Kangana Ranaut, known for her outspoken nature, referred to herself and Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan as the "last generation of stars." Despite facing a dry spell at the box office, Ranaut remains undeterred, drawing parallels between her career trajectory and that of Shah Rukh Khan.

Kangana’s remarks come in the wake of her latest theatrical release, Tejas, which failed to make a mark at the box office. Before this, her films such as Judgementall Hai Kya, Thalaivii, Dhakad, and Chandramukhi 2 also struggled to draw audiences to cinemas. However, she remains resolute, pointing to Shah Rukh Khan's career as evidence that success can come after several setbacks.

During her address, the actress further spoke about how the rise of OTT platforms does not necessarily equate to the creation of new stars, underscoring the enduring relevance of established faces like hers and Shah Rukh Khan's in the industry. She asserted, “OTT doesn't make stars. We are known faces. By the grace of God, we are very much in demand.”

Drawing a comparison to Shah Rukh Khan's journey, Ranaut highlighted that setbacks are a common part of an actor's career. She noted how SRK experienced a decade-long period of film flops before making a triumphant return with Pathaan and other successful ventures in 2023. Ranaut echoed a similar sentiment regarding her career, citing instances where past failures eventually paved the way for subsequent successes.

She said, “No actor in the world only has hits to their credit. Shah Rukh Khan's films didn't work for ten years and then Pathaan became a hit. My films didn't work for seven to eight years, but then Queen worked. Then, some more hits came, then after 3–4 years, Manikarnika worked. Now, Emergency is coming. Maybe it will become a hit.”

In addition to her acting pursuits, the 37-year-old actress is also venturing into the realm of politics. She is set to contest the Lok Sabha election from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi on the BJP’s ticket, adding a new dimension to her multifaceted career. Meanwhile, her upcoming film, Emergency, where she portrays India’s former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is slated for release on June 14, 2024.
