Kajol says mother Tanuja raised her in “outstandingly brave” manner; shares funny anecdote about daughter Nysa

Actress Kajol recently opened up about motherhood in an interview with Instant Bollywood. She said that motherhood is not easy, but it is one of the most rewarding experiences in life. Kajol said that she now understands how her own mother, actor Tanuja, raised her in an “outstandingly brave” manner.

“My mother never let me know the hardships she was facing to raise me,” the Dilwale actress said. “She always made sure that I had everything I needed and that I was happy. I am so grateful to her for the sacrifices she made for me.”

The Fanaa actress added that she respects her mother more than ever since she gave birth to her own daughter, Nysa. “Mothers are so fabulous at making everything look so easy,” Kajol said. “But we know that it is not always easy. They are always there for us, no matter what. Every day for me is a reminder of how beautifully I was raised.”

Kajol said that she hopes to be at least “half as brave” as her mother Tanuja and do the same thing for her daughter that the veteran actor did for her.

The Salaam Venky actress asserted, “But now as a parent I realise that… I respect her even more, everyday, since I have had my daughter. Because I realise the things she did with me as a parent were outstandingly brave, cool and so very forward thinking coming from the society and the time that she did. I commend her. I hope I am half as brave as her, maybe not as brave.”

When the 48-year-old actress was asked if she was ever told she would realise what it means to be a mother by Tanuja, Kajol shared a funny anecdote about her interactions with Nysa.

“My mother would say, ‘I really hope you have a daughter like yourself.’ I told my daughter the same thing one day, that I really hope and pray that you have a daughter like yourself and her answer was, ‘No, I am having sons, because I don’t think I can handle a daughter like me!’ I was like well, now you know Nysa!”

On the work front, Kajol recently made her digital debut with the Disney Plus Hotstar series, The Trial- Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha, an Indian adaptation of the American legal drama series, The Good Wife.
