Kajol reveals she would choose ‘Aman’ Salman Khan over ‘Rahul’ Shah Rukh Khan in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai if she were Anjali in real life

Kajol answered the long-standing question about Anjali picking Rahul over Aman in her iconic romantic drama Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

For the 90s kids, who were brought up with romantic dramas like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kajol is synonymous with her roles as Simran and Anjali. In a recent interview, the actress left fans surprised with her answers as she opened up about what she would have done if she was Anjali in real life. In fact, she went on to address the question of Aman or Rahul by confessing that she would have picked Aman aka Salman Khan over Rahul aka Shah Rukh Khan, had she been Anjali in real life.

Readers would be aware that Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which marked the directorial debut of Karan Johar, was a romantic drama revolving around love triangles in the lives of best friends Rahul and Anjali. While the 90s kids managed to shower only love on the film, it received a lot of flak from the current generation owing to the portrayal of Anjali’s character. For the unversed, Anjali plays a tom-boy girl who is well-versed in sports and dresses up in denims and sneakers with short hair-do during her college days and almost a decade later, when she reunites with Rahul, she becomes a saree-clad ‘sharmilee’ girl who teaches traditional dance forms to kids.

Talking about the portrayal of Anjali, Kajol confessed in an interview with Humans of Bombay, that she would have preferred the tom-boy version any day. “My version of Anjali would never be wearing a saree. She would be wearing those track pants and fab, expensive sneakers with it and make that look good,” said the actress. On the other hand, she also addressed the ongoing memes as well as articles about Anjali choosing Aman. Many of them, in the current generation, believe that considering Aman loved Anjali just the way she was, instead of Rahul, who did not pay attention to her when she was a tomboy, they believe that the film’s climax should have been changed since Anjali chooses Rahul in the end.

Talking about the climax of the film, Kajol maintained that if she would have been Anjali in real life, she would have chosen Aman but since it’s a film, the ending is justified. “On script level, maybe I would have gone with Salman's character, but in the film, if you watch the film, there is no choice about the ending, it has to be the way it is,” she added.
