Known for being selective about intimate scenes throughout her career, Kajol shared that the sequence in The Trial was never included merely for shock value. Instead, it was deeply connected to the narrative arc of her character, Noyonika Sengupta.

Speaking about the decision, Kajol said, “Honestly, it was the season that I was playing. It had so much to do with the character and who she was. It wasn't simply a kiss; it was about what she thought and what she wanted to happen and what didn't happen for her. What she believed, what she had faith in. What she couldn't have faith in. It was something that was an integral part of the entire screenplay, so I couldn't have cut that out without cutting an integral part of the entire character.”

The actress further admitted that while she understood the importance of the scene creatively, she was personally nervous about performing it until the last moment. Kajol added, “I think I was uncomfortable with it. I was very, very uncomfortable with the idea till I was standing on set. I liked it in theory and wasn't sure whether I was actually going to do it or tell them, ‘Cut! This is not happening!’ But, I really think it was simply that, it was simply a professional call where I felt that I can make this call today.”

Released in 2023, The Trial – Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha marked Kajol’s web series debut and received attention for presenting the actress in a layered, performance-driven role. The legal drama is the Indian adaptation of the acclaimed international series The Good Wife. It follows Noyonika Sengupta, a homemaker who returns to practicing law after her husband’s scandal turns her life upside down.

The series also featured Jisshu Sengupta, Kubbra Sait, Alyy Khan, Sheeba Chaddha, and Aamir Ali in pivotal roles. Directed by Suparn S. Varma and produced by Ajay Devgn and Deepak Dhar, the show blended courtroom battles with emotional family drama.

Kajol’s latest comments offer a glimpse into the thought process behind one of the most talked-about moments in The Trial. By prioritising the demands of the character over personal hesitation, the actress once again highlighted her commitment to evolving as a performer.
