The year 2022 turned out to be a bad one for Bollywood, with only a handful of films attaining success at the box office. The year also saw some south dubbed movies like RRR and KGF: Chapter 2 do phenomenal business. This, obviously, gave rise to a lot of discussions, debates and analysis on why a lot of Hindi films didn’t do well. In recent times, the enormous success of the Hollywood film Avatar: The Way of Water has also become a topic of discussion.

EXCLUSIVE: Kabir Khan says, “We are doing too much of Bollywood vs South and Bollywood vs Hollywood debate”

Filmmaker Kabir Khan believes that there has been too much of analysis and it’s only good films that do well. During an exclusive video chat with Bollywood Hungama, the filmmaker said while addressing the topic, “RRR and Avatar (2) would have anyways done well. They are good films. I don’t think it’s this versus that. I think we are also making too much about the divides. We are doing too much about Hollywood versus Bollywood, Bollywood versus South. We are doing too much of that.”

He added, “I am just happy that every time a film does well, it shows that people are still interested in a film. Today it might be a film from Hollywood or from the south. Tomorrow it will be a film from the Bombay industry.”

Kabir also touched upon the massive craze generated by Shah Rukh Khan’s return in Pathaan, which got the audience back to the theatres in large numbers. “That film brought it back,” said Kabir. “Maybe there will be some films after that that might not do to well. But that’s natural. That’s the natural state of the industry. I stay away from over-analysing and trying to fit everything into trends.”

Kabir’s next directorial venture is a yet-untitled film with Kartik Aaryan.
