Junaid Khan reflects on bagginag the lead role in Maharaj: “If I was not Aamir Khan’s son, I would probably not have gotten Maharaj”

en Bollywood News Junaid Khan reflects on bagginag the lead role in Maharaj: “If I was not Aamir Khan’s son, I would probably not have gotten Maharaj”

Junaid Khan opens up about auditioning for dad Aamir's film, citing budget constraints as the reason for rejection, but admits family ties helped him get "Maharaj."

Aamir Khan’s eldest son, Junaid Khan, recently made his highly anticipated debut in Maharaj, receiving critical acclaim for his performance. Acknowledging his film background, Junaid admitted that he likely wouldn’t have landed the role in Maharaj without his lineage tied to Aamir Khan.

Junaid Khan reflects on bagginag the lead role in Maharaj: “If I was not Aamir Khan’s son, I would probably not have gotten Maharaj”

During a discussion about his auditions for Laal Singh Chaddha, which Aamir had mentioned before, Junaid Khan revealed that while his father liked his audition, the film's budget constraints made it difficult to cast a newcomer in the lead role. Junaid said, “Isliye mujhe nahin mauka mila woh film karne ka... But I will also admit ki if I was not Aamir Khan's son, I would probably not have gotten Maharaj.”

Directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra and produced by YRF Entertainment, Maharaj tells the story of the historic 1862 Maharaj Libel Case, featuring key performances also from Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey, and Sharvari. The historical drama faced a temporary halt when the Gujarat High Court intervened following a petition from members of the Vaishnavite Pustimargi sect, who raised concerns about the film's portrayal of religious beliefs.

On June 21, the High Court lifted the stay, stating that Maharaj does not target the Vaishnav Pushtimarg sect, allowing the film to be released on Netflix the same day. Siddharth then spoke exclusively with Pinkvilla and said, “Natmastak pranam to the judiciary for them to see it and judge it for what it is and what our intent was.”

Siddhrath added, “I am really thankful to the judiciary that they allowed the film to come out and say that there’s nothing offensive in it. I am really hoping that people give it a fair chance because the film has been made with a lot of love. If you don’t like it, fair enough. Feedback is taken but give it a chance.”

Junaid is now set to appear next in an untitled film alongside Khushi Kapoor, scheduled for theatrical release on February 7, 2025.
