Actor Elnaaz Norouzi recently shared a message on social media addressing the political and social realities faced by people in Iran, drawing attention to decades of restrictions imposed on personal freedom and choice.

In her post, Norouzi invited audiences—particularly in India—to imagine a sudden loss of diversity and freedom. “Okay, imagine India today. So diverse, so alive, different religions, different languages, different ways of life, all existing together. Hindus, Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis,” she wrote.
She then described a hypothetical scenario where that diversity is erased overnight. “One day, overnight, a new regime comes and says, from today, in this beautiful, diverse country, only one religion is allowed,” she added.
Norouzi went on to describe how control over personal expression becomes enforced under such a system. “You either follow this religion or you're punished… Imagine they start controlling your clothes, your voice, your freedom is gone,” she wrote.
Clarifying that her words were not symbolic, she stated, “That's not a metaphor. It's not an exaggeration. That is exactly what happened in Iran and to Iranians.” She also pointed out Iran’s cultural history, noting, “Iran was once. As diverse, as cultural, as alive as India.”
Addressing the role of the people themselves, Norouzi emphasized that the political shift did not reflect public will. “The people didn't want this… Iranians didn't want this. As much as you wouldn't want this for your country or your people,” she wrote.
Her post adds to ongoing conversations around freedom of belief, personal autonomy, and the lived experiences of Iranians under restrictive governance.
