Aishwarya Rai walked on it, so did Nandita Das, Sonam Kapoor, Freida Pinto and Mallika Sherawat too followed. But this year, the French Riviera is all set to welcome yet another Bollywood celebrity. Ask a hundred people to describe her and they’ll tell you she is sexy, ambitious, entertaining and hot, and come May 11, she’ll be hot for a different reason. Minissha Lamba will be the Bollywood face at this year’s prestigious 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival as far as female celebrities are concerned. The reason? Well, she’s specially invited to attend the world premiere of Woody Allen’s Midnight In Paris that opens the festival. So don’t be surprised if you are trying to call Miss Lamba and she doesn’t answer or even bother to reply to your text. You can bet she is shedding a few kilos on the treadmill ever since her invite has arrived. The persona she has created and the way she has seemed to process her own fame hints at an underlying element of self-preservation at work. Minissha says shocking things: courtesy Twitter. She posts sexy pictures: courtesy Facebook. She looks good on film. But she doesn’t try to pull at your heartstrings by pretending to bare her soul. She doesn’t attempt to demystify herself through over explanation. She doesn’t try to really prove anything to you. She just gives you what she thinks you want and keeps the important stuff for herself. No wonder she gave me her quick take on that Cannes red carpet, that Woody Allen, that film Match Point, that Pinacolada, that Anmol jewellery, that Christian Dior dress and that Gucci shoes…and that Minissha Lamba! Impressed!
“I can’t wait to go to Cannes”
The first time I heard about the Cannes Film Festival was about a decade ago when I was glued in as to what was happening in the world of movies and all. That’s the time I wasn’t sure whether to enter the film industry or not. But I wanted to at some point. It didn’t mean anything until I saw the pictures of Hollywood celebrities walking the red carpet and thought that the Cannes Film Festival was a big deal the world over. I can’t wait to go to Cannes.
“I got the invite through a common friend”
I received an invite to attend the premiere of Woody Allen’s Midnight In Paris. I got the invite through a common friend. That’s why I will be attending my first ever Cannes Film Festival and gracing the red carpet for the festival’s opening film.
“Bollywood as an entity is getting worldwide recognition”
I read that even Saif Ali Khan is going to attend the Cannes Film Festival. It is something fantastic. Then there is Shekhar Kapoor and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra too with their documentary film. I think we have a great presence of our Indian Film Industry out there. It just goes to show that Bollywood as an entity is getting worldwide recognition.
“It’s only after watching Match Point that I went back to Woody Allen’s older films”
The first film I saw of Woody Allen was his newer films. Can you believe that? I love Match Point and Vicki Cristina Barcelona. But before that I saw a documentary on his life and films and thought that he commands and deserves respect. It’s only after watching Match Point that I went back to his older films and in a few days I will be exchanging pleasantries with him.
“There’s Dior, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Tarun Tahliani, D & G. I’m too confused”
As of now I haven’t decided what I’m going to wear. I’m looking at a lot of options and a lot of stuff is coming from various designers like Christian Dior, Dolce and Gabbana, Tarun Tahliani, Louis Vuitton are sending some stuff, jewellery from Anmol, shoes from Gucci and Louis Vuitton too and the many more. I am very confused right now what I’ll be wearing. There are too many beautiful things that have come (laughs).
“What I like about Hollywood celebrities is that they are very real”
I’ve only met Fifty Cents so far from the overseas list of innumerable celebrities. I guess it’s the Cannes Film Festival that’s going to be my ticket to meet the who’s who of Hollywood and the world out there. What I like about Hollywood celebrities is that they are very real and don’t have starry attitude. They are like regular people like you bump into the streets every day.
“I am shedding a few more kilos to look skinny in my gorgeous outfits”
I did plan to visit Cannes for three days but I have now decided to stay for the entire week and going to sip my favourite Pinacolada. At the moment I am shedding a few more kilos to look skinny in my gorgeous outfits that I’ll be wearing at Cannes. So there won’t be any yummy heavy breakfast for me at Cannes (laughs).
