At an informal event today, Aamir Khan showcased the making of Dangal to a group of senior journalists at a preview theatre in Mumbai. The making video chronicled the journey of Aamir transforming from fat to fit in a matter of five months. A man with a big paunch, white beard and a body fat of 32% metamorphosed into a six pack adorning man with a remarkable fat percentage of 9.6%. “I hope you will never ever see me like this,” Aamir is heard saying in the making video on the day he packed up for the role of the older heavier Mahaveer Phogat. Later when Aamir was asked about the thought process when he underwent the massive change, he said that when you have to climb Mount Everest, don’t look at the peak, just take one step at a time. He did go through many moments when he felt that he won’t be able to do it but he just kept going.
“Putting on weight was fun, but it was uncomfortable. I was carrying so much weight, there were breathing changes, the way you walk changes too,” Aamir said. He also credited his dietician Dr Dhurandar and his trainers Rahul Bhatt and Rakesh. “Diet is the most important aspect,” Aamir said. During the entire process he underwent several injuries and there were times when he had to take high dosage of painkiller injections.
When asked if he would be applying for tax free status for Dangal, Aamir said that the team is planning to apply for tax free status before the release itself since it falls into that bracket but ultimately it is up to the various state governments whether they grant the tax free status or not. He also said that he’s dying to show Dangal to Salman Khan.
Aamir had showcased a similar making video before the release of Ghajini but the difference was that then he moved from being lean to muscular. In the Dangal making video, the task is far tougher as Aamir has to lose weight, cut down on the fat percentage, make a chiselled body and then he’s 10 years older than what he was in Ghajini. The metabolism rate of the body slows down and the effort required is double than before. Even though his doctor has advised him against gaining weight in such a manner in future but Aamir says he will do anything to justify a role and would do whatever the role demands, including physical transformation.
