Education is considered absolutely essential in today’s times. A basic degree is a must, if not getting exceled in masters. But there have been several examples of personalities who aren’t graduates and yet reached the pinnacle of success. In Bollywood, Deepika Padukone is one such talent who failed to get time for her educational commitments.
At the launch of Hema Malini’s autobiography ‘Beyond The Dream Girl’ written by Ram Kamal Mukherjee, Deepika Padukone opened up on this aspect and her parents contribution in her success. She said, “It’s an interesting place but to me but there are sacrifices that you have to make. For instance, I haven’t gone to college. I just about managed to finish my 12th because I was already a very successful model by that time. I was based in Bengaluru but I used to keep travelling to Mumbai and Delhi for work. Hence, I couldn’t keep up with my education. After finishing Class 12, I tried to do one of year of my degree course in a college. But I couldn’t do that. I then tried to do distance education and I couldn’t complete that as well. So yeah, I am just a 12th pass! My parents back then had a big issue with this as they always wanted me to start working only after I had got my basic degree. It’s a very conservative Indian way of looking at things – to always have something to fall back on. Somewhere along the way, they realized how passionate I was about what I wanted to do. And then overnight, I had wings to fly! I don’t think I would have been able to do so much without their support. To go everyday home and to know that my parents believe in my vision was a big thing. Maybe they were confident about the way they brought me and were okay to let me go.”
On the film front, Deepika Padukone will be seen in Padmavati that releases on December 1. It also features Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor and is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
