Hrithik Roshan has added his voice to the growing excitement around Project Hail Mary, calling Andy Weir’s novel the “best sci-fi book ever” in a candid Instagram post while sharing his anticipation for its upcoming film adaptation starring Ryan Gosling.

The actor recently posted a photo of Weir’s bestselling book on Instagram and offered an unfiltered reaction to both the novel and the film’s early promotional material. “Best sci-fi book ever! (I’ve only read 2),” Hrithik wrote, before adding that he hopes the film “lives up to this.” Commenting on the trailer, he noted that he appreciated how it refrained from revealing too much, saying it was good “in the sense that they didn’t really ‘show’ anything.”
Hrithik also had praise for Ryan Gosling, who plays astronaut Dr. Ryland Grace in the film. “Ryan Gosling looks and acts unbelievably good as Mr. Grace,” he wrote, admitting that the role didn’t feel like an obvious fit at first. However, he also expressed some curiosity—and concern—about how a key non-human character from the book will be translated on screen. “Not so sure about his space friend tho. Damn I hope they get him right. What an amazing read tho!! Super stuff,” he added.

The film adaptation of Project Hail Mary is being co-directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Based on Andy Weir’s novel, the story follows Dr. Ryland Grace, who wakes up alone aboard an interstellar spacecraft with no memory of how he got there, only to discover that he may be humanity’s last hope to prevent Earth’s extinction. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on March 20, 2026.
Hrithik’s post also comes amid what fans have noticed as a growing interest in reading, particularly science fiction. Just last week, the actor shared that he had finished Douglas Adams’ cult classic The Hitch-Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. The comments section quickly filled with amused and enthusiastic responses, with one fan dubbing him “Critic Roshan,” while another wrote, “IT’S CRAZY GOOD TO HAVE YOU BECOMING A BIG READER TOO!!” Others were quick to offer suggestions, including George Orwell’s 1984.
