How ‘Anti-National’ Aamir Khan shames ultra-nationalists

Bollywood News

Aamir Khan's Paani Foundation is doing an exemplary job in creating awareness about novel ways of water conservation in Maharashtra. Political water trains to Latur can solve the water crisis for a small time period but Aamir is working on a tangible plan for a long term solution of the severe water woes in India which may get worse in the coming years if not tackled urgently. Paani Foundation has announced a Water Cup where big prize money is up for grabs for those who shall come up with unique methods of water preservation.

Aamir has issued a video where he states in a simplified manner the root cause behind water problem and, how it can be solved in a practical manner. The good news is that India receives much more rainfall than many other countries but the bad news is that most of the water is wasted since it is not conserved properly. Aamir gave the example of a few villages in Maharashtra (which get the same amount of rainfall as other villages) that continue to be blessed with greenery even in the severe drought and enough water is there for farming as well as drinking. The reason for this was that the villagers gave up all their differences, joined hands irrespective of their religion or caste barriers and they indulged in water shed management. They made arrangements to store water and worked towards ways to help rise the water table in their area.

While many of the politicians are busy indulging in disaster tourism by clicking selfies in Latur or splurging valuable water in watering helipads for ministers, it is extremely important that the credible solutions initiated by Paani Foundation are implemented at the earliest without bureaucratic red tapism or insensitive politicking. Aamir has personally been visiting the drought hit districts of Beed and Satara and creating awareness about water conservation. Many celebrities like Raju Hirani, Riteish Deshmukh, Sai Tamhankar, Makarand Anasapure, Kangna Ranaut and many more have been supporting Paani Foundation. Mr Nana Patekar is doing exemplary work in helping poor farmers and urging them not to commit suicide. His selfless tirade against the drought in Maharashtra will be remembered for a long time to come. Akshay Kumar has generously donated Rs 50 lacs to the cause of drought affected villages in Maharashtra.

Aamir Khan came in for severe criticism on his views on the growing intolerance in India. He was labelled as an anti-national, was asked to go to Pakistan and a severe vilification campaign was unleashed on the social media and by certain media houses. A few voices from within Bollywood namely Anupam Kher, Paresh Rawal, singer Abhijeet, Raveena Tandon and Ashok Pandit indulged in scathing criticism of Aamir. The famous question was constantly asked, 'aap tab kahan the jab...1984 Sikh riots happened, when Kashmiri Pandits had to move out of Kashmir valley'. The question that many people are asking the ultra-nationalist brigade of Bollywood that 'aap ab kahan hain jab your Karmbhoomi Maharashtra is crying under a spell of disastrous drought condition'. Is your high decibel 'Patriotism' limited to voicing opinions in air conditioned news rooms? Your sloganeering on twitter makes no difference to poor farmers who have far bigger issues to deal with than worrying about the 'religion' of the poor farmer in the neighbourhood who's contemplating suicide due to the hyper sad realities of life. It is time that conscious efforts are made to unite everyone in scaffolding India by helping the underprivileged people of the country to Hope for a better tomorrow with an assurance of basic needs of life.
