The country of Pakistan has produced some great artists and sportspersons who have huge respect across the world. But Pakistan is accused of sponsoring terrorism and harbouring some of the most dangerous terrorists of the world. A recent statement of United States of America president Donald Trump threatening to cut off financial aid to Pakistan has dealt a further blow to this country. A consequence of these allegations and defending terrorists is that that the creative and sports personalities face a tough time when they go abroad.

Popular actress Saba Qamar has faced the brunt of it when she went last year to Tbilisi, the capital of the European country of Georgia, to suit the promotional track ‘Suit Suit’ from Hindi Medium. At the airport, she was detained due to her Pakistani citizenship while the rest of the crewmembers, who were all Indians, were allowed to go. Saba Qamar spoke about it in a talk show in Pakistan and she broke down while narrating her ordeal. This particular bit has become the latest viral video. Saba says, “We are from this holy land and we very proudly chant ‘Pakistan Zindabad’. But I can’t tell you the way we get humiliated and the manner in which our checking is done when we travel abroad. I remember going to Tblisi for a shoot. All the crew members, who were Indians, were allowed to go. But only I was stopped. It was because of my passport. I am from Pakistan after all. They did a full investigation and took my interview. Only then I was allowed to go. That’s when I realized – is this the respect we have across the world? Is this our position? Where do we even stand?”

Hindi Medium was Saba Qamar’s debut film in Bollywood which also starred Irrfan Khan. The actress couldn’t promote the film thanks to the diktat on a ban on Pakistani artistes following the shocking Uri attacks in 2016. This was also one of the big reasons why Tbilisi was chosen to shoot as getting her to India to shoot the promotional track was out of the question.
