During the Directors' Roundtable, Hansal Mehta reflected on his collaboration with Kareena Kapoor Khan in The Buckingham Murders, offering rare insights into her approach to acting. "Kareena is an actor whose face tells a million stories, and she doesn’t know it. The beauty is that she is unaware; she wants to be unaware of what she’s capable of, so it’s left to you to capture that," he shared.

Hansal describes the process of working with Kareena as a unique journey of discovery

The filmmaker further appreciated the actress and shared, "You place a camera, and you’re forced to go close to her. Kareena does not communicate anything about [her process]. She comes and she says, ‘I’m ready to go,’ but I know she’s internally going through something. You know, grief, a grieving mother. There’s a process that’s going on, but she doesn’t talk about that process."

Elaborating on the same, Hansal revealed, "This is a film I signed before the pandemic in 2018, and it became a commitment. Until nobody wanted to do it with me, then Kareena called. We got on a Zoom call, and she said, ‘I like it, and I want to do it.’ I had given up on the film."

Hansal’s words painted a vivid picture of Kareena’s silent yet profound creative process, highlighting her ability to internalize emotions and bring them to life on screen.

About The Buckingham Murders

The film featured Kareena Kapoor Khan in the role of a full-fledged detective and the actress garnered appreciation for her character from many. She plays the protagonist Jasmeet aka Jass Bhamra, a British-Indian detective who is assigned the case of a murdered child in Buckinghamshire. The film also stars an ensemble cast that includes the likes of Keith Allen, Ranveer Brar, Sarah-Jane Dias, among others and it released in theatres in India on September 13.
