The film and streaming industry is often as unpredictable as it is rewarding, and actor Gurfateh Pirzada’s journey stands as a stark reminder of that reality. From the high of a promising debut to the emotional toll of repeatedly shelved projects, the actor has now candidly opened up about a phase that tested his faith and confidence — particularly the cancellation of Netflix’s Class — and how he eventually found his way back with renewed determination and a packed slate ahead.
Gurfateh Pirzada opens up on Class being shelved and his big Netflix comeback: “I came down with a high fever and thought, not again”
Gurfateh made his screen debut with Netflix’s Guilty in 2020, a project that marked his first major outing and came with the optimism of having finally “arrived.” However, the pandemic soon followed, and what looked like a smooth ascent turned into a prolonged period of uncertainty. Several projects that were announced and signed never took off, leaving the actor grappling with a string of professional disappointments.
Things finally turned around when Class premiered in 2023. The show emerged as a surprise hit, earning appreciation and building strong anticipation for a second season. Unfortunately, the sequel was eventually shelved, dealing yet another blow to the actor. Speaking about the moment he learned of the show’s cancellation, Gurfateh shared an emotional note reflecting on how deeply it affected him.
Penning his thoughts, the actor wrote, “Story time....The year was 2020 and | had my first outing in the movies with GUILTY on @netflix_in I thought this was it...and man I'd arrived (LOL) the pandemic happened and we all know how that story went.... Then came a bunch of projects that were announced and signed but eventually never saw the light of day...but there was a dark horse that I was working on all along that came to be known as CLASS exactly three years later in 2023 and a lot of you and I absolutely loved that show...but unfortunately we could not give you another season because life usually has other plans...l still remember it was the last week of 2024 when I heard the news of class being cancelled and I came down with a high fever and thought not again...not another one of my projects getting shelved and if I remember correctly it was probably the 7th one (in 3 years) and it completely broke whatever faith and confidence I had within...”

He added, “Fast forward to 2025... I don't know what changed and how it all transpired and came to fruition... I decided to leave it all behind and start afresh with a renewed sense of self...and thank the lord... think there was a point when I didn't have enough hours in the day to do it all...but we somehow managed. All credit to the team at @dcatalent for pulling through and fighting tooth and nail for this one and to @raodyness for giving me an honest shot!!! So while we wait for #LUSTSTORIES, here's another sneak peak! And while each outing at Netflix took me 3 years, the next one will be a lot sooner.”
Despite the setbacks, Gurfateh bounced back with Call Me Bae and now has an exciting line-up that includes Lust Stories 3, Revolutionaries, Dynasty, and Call Me Bae 2. Endowed with talent and persistence, the actor continues to carve his space, proving that resilience often matters as much as opportunity in the world of entertainment.
