Govinda is one of the most successful actors of his time. The actor, known for his dancing and comic timing, gave several super hits including Raja Babu, Hero No 1, Coolie No 1, among others. With that being said, he did 17 films of David Dhawan before they had a falling out. This past weekend, Govinda appeared on Rajat Sharma’s show Aap Ki Adalat where he opened about various aspects of his life including believing in numerology, Ranveer Singh, Salman Khan, fall out with David Dhawan and Kader Khan among others.
Speaking of the current generation, Govinda said that Ranveer Singh is going to be the next superstar. He said, “It is necessary that an artiste should be polite, should learn fast, and must shun arrogance in order to succeed in career. He has those qualities, and I think he has just begun, and if he continues to work hard, he will succeed. He is my favourite.”
Govinda praised Salman Khan who helped him make comeback with Partner. The project starrer Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif. “I love him, he is a very nice person and a very good artiste. Both Ranveer and Salman top my list,” he added.
While David Dhawan and Govinda’s fall out was known to all, when asked about Kader Khan and how they had issues too, Govinda had a legit reason. “Kader Khan had the Midas touch. Whichever film he touched, it became a hit. He first wrote superhit films for Amitabh Bachchan, then wrote for Jeetendra, then did hit films with Mithun Chakraborty, and he wrote superhit films for me,” he said.
During the conversation, Rajat Sharma pointed out that Kader Khan’s son Sarfaraz had lashed out at Govinda for not even calling once after the death of the veteran actor. Kader Khan passed away earlier this year after a prolonged illness. Govinda replied, “Kader Khan had become a man of such a soft nature that he would take offence over even smallest of the issues.”
He further added, “Once he was writing a screenplay on a divine religious book, and I beseeched him not to touch his pen to paper for writing about a religious book. I told him it could harm his life, his health and his activities. I cautioned him only because I loved him. The director came and told me how I dared to ask Kader Khan to stop writing. I replied, it is because I love him. Kader Khan continued writing, and our relationship ended. Kader Khan also scolded me. He was my guru and I didn’t reply to him. I, however, tried to contact him three or four times later, but could not. He then fell ill.”
There was also a time when Govinda took a step away from films for politics. He contested during 14th Lok Sabha Elections. Speaking about it, Govinda said, “There were sadhus and saints who persuaded me to run for elections. Anyway, I late left politics, because I am basically an artiste and shall always remain so.”
There have been rumours that Govinda is superstitious and believes in numerology. When asked about the same, he agreed to it. The Bollywood star also admitted that he believed in superstition and numerology. Govinda said, “Honourable (Aadaraniya) Amitabh Bachchan Ji wears a sapphire, has anybody commented? Never, because they fear. Sanjay Dutt wears precious stones, has anybody commented? And Salman Khan? People will flee in fear if they ask him.”
Govinda also admitted that he remarried his wife Sunita Ahuja at the age of 49.
