Supermodel and former Miss Universe India Vartika Singh is set to make her much-anticipated Bollywood debut with Haq, an intense drama directed by Suparn Varma of The Family Man and Rana Naidu fame. The film features Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam together for the first time, in lead roles and is produced by Junglee Pictures, in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios.

Speaking of Vartika, she plays a woman described as “unpredictable and emotionally exacting.” Speaking about her performance, director Suparn Varma shared that her portrayal carries “controlled fire” — a quality that defines much of the film’s emotional undercurrent. To prepare for the role, we hear that the actress underwent extensive dialect coaching and participated in improvisation-based workshops to better understand her character’s silences — what Varma refers to as “the quiet machinery of guilt.”

Born and raised in Lucknow, the journey of Vartika Singh is expected to have come full circle as Haq was filmed partly in her hometown. Her transition from the world of fashion and pageantry to now acting in cinema gives a fresh dimension to her career, and also adds her to the list of the recent newcomers that Hindi cinema has been witnessing.

Coming to Haq, set against the backdrop of a complex and emotionally charged legal battle, the film promises to explore themes of morality, guilt, and truth — and how each can shift depending on who’s telling the story. The film’s narrative brings Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam on opposing sides of a case that unexpectedly collides with Vartika Singh’s mysterious character.

Based on true events and considering that it explores rare themes, Haq is believed to be one of 2025’s most intriguing Hindi films. It is slated for a theatrical release on November 7.
