Farah Khan has always been known for her adaptability, humour, and ability to reinvent herself. The filmmaker and choreographer, who has not directed a film since Happy New Year (2014), recently opened up about her journey into content creation and how she found a new outlet for her creativity through YouTube.

The 60-year-old filmmaker launched her YouTube channel in April 2024, starting with casual cooking vlogs featuring her and her cook, Dilip. The videos quickly became viral, turning into a popular series that now boasts close to 3 million subscribers. Farah also enjoys a massive following of 4.5 million on Instagram.

In the latest episode of Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, Farah shared how she decided to start her YouTube journey during a creative lull in her filmmaking career. “Even when my movie wasn’t happening, when I wasn’t directing, I thought, ‘Let me do YouTube because I can see where things are going.’ Also, I have three kids who go to university next year, and that’s bloody expensive,” she said with a laugh, referring to her 17-year-old triplets — Czar, Anya, and Diva — whom she shares with filmmaker-husband Shirish Kunder. What began as a light-hearted experiment soon became a full-fledged success. “I just said, for a lark, let me start a show on YouTube, and that just clicked,” she added.

Farah, who is known for directing hit films like Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om, and Tees Maar Khan, also reflected on her work philosophy and what keeps her going. “Your life can’t revolve around another person. I feel happiness has to come from within and from your work. Work actually gives me a lot of pleasure. I feel I can work till I’m 80 because my work doesn’t depend on either my looks or, clearly, my body,” she said.

The latest episode of Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, featuring Farah Khan and actor Ananya Panday, is streaming on Prime Video from Thursday midnight.
