Shah Rukh Khan, riding high on the success of recent film Jawan, is gearing up for his upcoming project, Dunki, directed by the acclaimed Rajkumar Hirani. The film's teaser introduces a plot centred around individuals harbouring aspirations of relocating to the United States. Intriguingly, the latest revelation from Farah Khan added a twist to the narrative, as she disclosed having pitched a similar script to Shah Rukh Khan years ago, only to face rejection on the grounds of the actor feeling “too old” for the role.

In a recent conversation with Bharti Singh and Harsh Lambachiya, Farah Khan expressed her surprise upon witnessing the Dunki promo, finding it strikingly reminiscent of her earlier version of Happy New Year, a script that Shah Rukh Khan had disapproved. Describing the concept of her unreleased project, Farah revealed, “I wrote a version of Happy New Year that Shah Rukh did not like. It is very strange because now I’m watching the promo of Dunki… That Happy New Year was about 4 boys who want to go to America and be tadipaar and the only way they want to do it is if they take part in a dance competition because the finals are in Las Vegas.”

Recalling SRK's reaction to her script, Farah mentioned that he believed portraying the character would make him appear “too old” for the part. She said, “‘I will look too old, I’m too old to play this young boy.” The uncanny resemblance between Dunki and her previous script prompts speculation, with some online discussions suggesting that Dunki could be an alternative version of Munna Bhai Chale America, the third installment of a franchise originally planned with Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi but never materialized.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year was a film featuring a star-studded cast, including Deepika Padukone, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani, and Abhishek Bachchan. Dunki now emerges as an intriguing venture, evoking both anticipation and comparisons to the unreleased script from Farah Khan's creative vault.
