EXCLUSIVE: Vicky Kaushal opens up about actors seeking validation; says, “You are always craving for the validation from outside”

Critics are one of the bluntest reviewers of a film or actor. They write what seems correct and valid according to their viewpoint. Some artists consume it deeply while others might not let it affect them. Rohit Saraf has won millions of hearts with his talent and acting as well as his looks. However, at the Bollywood Hungama Actors Round Table 2022 presented by Astroyogi, when he was asked how he detaches himself from YouTube views, Instagram likes, and other social media validation, Ludo actor, Rohit Saraf, quite openly said, “I literally don’t know. I am a mess, completely consumed by all of it. I get extremely affected when something, that I have been a part of is not received well. It is because of the simple reason that I don’t understand how to not think about it”.

Sharing his unfortunate experience, he said, “I had not realized it, until very recently, in one of the releases, most of which was received pretty well. But one review that I read for Vikram Vedha, did not have my name mentioned in it at all. It made me wonder if I was that bad, which I do not agree. I kept thinking that if I do not agree, then why is it affecting me so much as technically it should not. If I am content with what I did, then it should not affect me so much as to what other people are thinking. I would rather have people notice that I am bad, than being unnoticed, as then you suddenly start questioning yourself that what was all that hard work for or am I not growing as an actor”.

To this Vicky Kaushal wittily replied, “Sometimes the review writers have word limits up to which they can write, probably that is why your (Rohit Saraf) name was not mentioned”. Adding similar experience to that of Rohit, Vicky shared, “During Raman Raghav, one of the reviews did not mention me and I was surprised as the film had only two main characters, not ten. Initially in your career, you are always craving for the validation from outside. It is only after years of experience; you seek validation from within”.

Further, Major actor, Adivi Sesh shared his experience where he said, “We did film, titled, Evaru, Telugu version of Invisible Guest. There was one review which read, the actor, Adivi Sesh, has not done anything in the film, rather everything is done by the actress of the film only. So, sometimes not being mentioned in the review is better than being mentioned in this sense”.
