Zoya Afroz is back in focus, thanks to her fine performance in the recently released web series, Taskaree: The Smuggler's Web, co-starring Emraan Hashmi. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actress spoke about her show and later on also opened up about other aspects.
Taskaree: The Smuggler's Web was released on January 14 on Netflix, while Zoya’s birthday falls on January 10. In other words, she shares her birthday with Hrithik Roshan. How does that make her feel and has she met and told the superstar about it? Zoya Afroz replied, “I haven’t met him, but would love to be in the same frame as him as his leading lady. Hopefully, we will use our blue-green eyes to light up the screen with a sizzling chemistry (laughs)!”
Not many are aware that Zoya Afroz started as a child actor in Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999). When asked if she was still in touch with the director, Sooraj Barjatya, she said, “I remember visiting his office for an audition where I met Sooraj ji. He was very happy to see me. When Raj ji (Raj Kumar Barjatya) saw me, he very proudly took me to meet his entire office staff and reminded them that I am Radhika from Hum Saath Saath Hain. That was a happy moment for me!”
Zoya Afroz continued, “As a child actor, working with Sooraj ji in that environment taught me discipline and respect for storytelling early on, even if my journey since then has taken very different turns. And his sets were like a beautiful family gathering, just like it’s depicted in his beautiful films.”
As an adult, Zoya Afroz debuted with The Xpose (2014). When asked how she looks back at that film and working with Himesh Reshammiya, Zoya stated, “I’ve seen that the songs ‘Ice Cream Kaungi’ and ‘Dard Dilo Ke’ have become quite popular, and I have to thank Himesh for his incredible sense of music. Looking back, I see it as a snapshot of a particular phase, both in my career and in the industry. It was flamboyant, unapologetic, and very reflective of its time. Every phase teaches you something, even if you outgrow it later.”
