EXCLUSIVE: Taran Adarsh applauds The Kerala Story for defying expectations at the box office; says, “These numbers are crucial for the industry’s health” : Bollywood News

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh credited the success of the film The Kerala Story for boosting the health of the Indian film industry. Adarsh said that the film's success was a surprise to many, as it was released alongside several other big-budget films.

It all started when the renowned critic was asked to shed light on the fact that the films like The Kerala Story and The Kashmir Files did not perform well globally despite doing well in India. In his response, Adarsh asserted, “I don't really know why those films didn't work well in certain regions. I don't know if those stories were authentic or not, especially when we talk about The Kerala Story. I can't even say for sure if it is a true story or not.”

He continued, “However, one thing I can say for sure is that its box office success took the industry by surprise. Just like The Kashmir Files surprised everyone last year. It was released alongside Radhe Shyam, then a week later Bachchan Pandey, and a few weeks later RRR.”

He further added, “Now, The Kerala Story also arrived amidst the release of many other big films, either simultaneously or closely, but eventually, I realised one thing. We were all waiting for those box office numbers to come in, and they did this year for The Kerala Story, Pathaan, and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke.

He concluded his point by saying, “These numbers are crucial for the industry's health. Why? Because when Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Kartik Aaryan, or other big stars fail to deliver successful films, it makes us think that at least something is working now. That's more important for the industry."

Produced by Vipul Shah, The Kerala Story was released on May 5. The Sudipto Sen directorial features Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani.
