Actor Taapsee Pannu has spoken about the growing pressure actors face in the age of social media, saying that trying to satisfy multiple stakeholders—from critics to audiences and online commentators—once began to affect her personally. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Pannu reflected on a phase a few years ago when she found herself questioning who she was ultimately trying to please.

“It did start getting to me some time back, a few years ago, because I started feeling like—who exactly should I please? Should I please the critics? Should I please anyone who has a phone and can comment online? Or should I focus on the audience that actually buys tickets for my films?” she said.
According to Pannu, the list of people whose approval seemed necessary kept growing over time, adding another layer of pressure for actors working in the public eye. “And then there are studio heads, OTT platform heads… the list just kept increasing every day. It felt like someone or the other would always have something negative to say,” she added.
During the conversation, the actor also spoke critically about anonymous commentary on online platforms, particularly Reddit, which she described as “a disease.” “There’s this thing called Reddit—I call it a disease,” she said. “Earlier it was still manageable because people who didn’t want to reveal their identity would go on platforms like Instagram or X and abuse celebrities while hiding behind anonymous profiles.”
Pannu argued that Reddit amplifies the problem because it allows users to post long, unverified stories about actors without revealing their identities. “Now there’s a full-fledged platform where you don’t even need to give your name. People can write long, fabricated stories about actors and simply add a line saying ‘I have worked with so-and-so, so I know them very well.’ Suddenly that becomes a legitimate story,” she said.
She further pointed out that such online narratives sometimes influence mainstream conversations, including media interactions. “Journalists are asking questions based on Reddit theories. That’s scary,” she remarked, adding that the anonymity offered by such platforms allows speculation to circulate widely without accountability.
The actor was recently seen in Assi, a courtroom drama directed by Anubhav Sinha. Released in February 2026, the film received positive critical reviews but did not perform strongly at the box office.
