Sumit Arora has carved a niche for himself, thanks to his solid writing in shows like The Family Man, Dahaad, Guns & Gulaabs and Citadel: Honey Bunny and in films like Stree (2018), ’83 (2021), Jawan (2023), Chandu Champion (2024), etc. Last Friday was significant for him as he had 2 releases in 1 day – the season 3 of The Family Man dropped on Amazon Prime Video while the Farhan Akhtar-starrer war drama 120 Bahadur arrived in cinemas. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Sumit Arora spoke about his work in the upcoming film, Border 2, starring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty and others. It is all set to arrive in cinemas on January 23, 2026.
Sumit Arora said, “Border (1997) was a film that we all loved. I was 10 years old when I watched it in my hometown, Meerut. When I was called to write Border 2, I went back to that memory. I saw the film in Ajanta Theatre, which was located near my father’s shop. A lot of cycle rickshaws were parked outside as a lot of rickshaw drivers had come to see the film. My dad was a big movie buff and a fan of Sunny Deol. The experience was unforgettable. I remember everything from the film, right from the songs like ‘Ae Jaate Hue Lamhon’ to ‘Sandese Aate Hai’ or the memorable scenes. I remember people waiting for Jackie Shroff and chanting his name in anticipation!”
Sumit continued, “Hence, when I was offered Border 2, I decided to go back to this memory and bring to the fore the emotion that I felt back then. At the same time, I also had to bring in the sensibility of today.”
When asked about his interaction with the lead man, Sunny Deol, Sumit Arora replied, “He’s a legend and a great person to collaborate with. He can emote so well. It’s a delight to see an actor like him perform the lines that I had written. His famous dialogues are the ones where he’s shouting or he’s angry. But in real life, he’s very nice, humble and sweet.”
Hence, will viewers get to see him in angry mode in Border 2? Sumit Arora revealed, “Of course. How can there be Border 2 without the fiery dialogues of Sunny Deol (smiles)?”
