EXCLUSIVE: “Sooraj Barjatya sir made us treat movie set as a temple,” reveals Dono actress Kanikka Kapur : Bollywood News

Avnish Barjatya’s directorial debut Dono was also a launch for actors Rajveer Deol and Paloma. But the film also starred Kanikka Kapur in the role of the bride and Rajveer’s former lover. Despite Avnish being the director of the film, his father and veteran filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya was also present on the sets as a guide and mentor.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Kanikka expressed her happiness of working with Sooraj. She said, “Sooraj sir was my favourite person in Dono. I really look up to him and respect him of course as a director and also the person that he is. He has a different aura only. You can’t really express it in words; you have to meet him. And he is one of the most humble people I have come across. He treats everyone with equality and respect. If there is one thing that I have learnt from him, it will be that. Some day if I become even half of who he is, I will also be as humble as him.”

Apart for his filmmaking skills, Kanikka was also impressed with the knowledge Sooraj provided the young cast. “My experience of working with him was very nice because he was very involved in the whole shooting throughout. Off camera, he used to give us a lot of life lessons, which will always stay with me. He made us understand a lot of things,” she said.

The young actress elaborated saying, “Like how it is so important for you as an actor to leave your emotional baggage at home and think of your shooting set as a temple. Just like how you remove your footwear outside the temple, as an actor you should come to the set as an empty vessel, so that you can fill your character with it. I feel that was beautiful. I will follow that for my future projects. He made us realize that just a little gesture can make a big difference, which we didn’t know as actors, but he knew as a director. He is a different person. If you just sit and observe him on the set, you can still learn so much. I hope I work with him again soon.”

Kanikka Kapur also plays a pivotal role in the web show ImMature.
