Abbas Tyrewala’s work as a dialogue writer in director Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan has been appreciated. He had also penned the lines for the last two action films of the same filmmaker in the form of Bang Bang and War. Interestingly, Tyrewala and Siddharth had also associated as writer-filmmaker in the latter’s debut Salaam Namaste (2005), which was a romantic comedy; a genre hugely different than the aforementioned three action films.
When Bollywood Hungama exclusively asked Tyrewala about how he has seen Siddharth grow as a director from his earlier days during Salaam Namaste to Pathaan, he gave an interesting answer. “I have seen his filmmaking and skills grow,” he said. “I have seen his command over action and other aspects get better and better. But as a filmmaker, I have seen no growth at all. The guy was as confident the first time that he came to me and said that he wanted me to write the dialogues (for Salaam Namaste). He was as sure of himself and his work. He was as much in love with his films then as he is now.”
Tyrewala added, “I didn’t meet a work-in-progress, I met a finished product. And he has stayed exactly the same and may Allah keep him always as young and as excited and passionate about his work. His skills as a filmmaker will keep growing but his attitude has been the same since day one.”
Pathaan, a spy action film, stars Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana in pivotal roles. The film was released worldwide on January 25 and it has had an explosive journey at the box office as it recently crossed Rs 500 crores in India itself.
