EXCLUSIVE: Selfiee actor Akashdeep Sabir recalls his journey from being a director to an actor; says, “It was very unnerving initially” : Bollywood News

A director, who dedicated 20 years of his life to the craft of filmmaking, decided to try to perform in front of the camera in his second innings. There is no turning back for director-turned-actor Akashdeep Sabir. For the unversed, he started his acting career with a couple of Facebook ads, and today, he has a bunch of Bollywood films in his kitty, including Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Sam Bahadur, Trial Period, and Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film Selfiee. While talking exclusively to Bollywood Hungama, Akashdeep recalled his journey and explained that it has been a learning experience for him.

When asked how it feels to be an actor now, Akashdeep asserted, “After directing for 20 years, I went back to acting. So, it was not very comfortable. Because I was used to telling actors to go and sit in the vanity van and start preparing for the next shot. Now, when I started acting and gave my first shot, the director told me to take some rest in the vanity van. Now, I had to sit in the van every half an hour after every shot. It was disorienting for me because I was a director for so many years. Meanwhile, as an actor, now, I have to sit in a van in a three-piece suit and make-up and wait till the next shot. So, it was very unnerving initially.”

He further explained, “But, now after acting for almost two years, I am comfortable. I am getting better roles as well. If one thing that has changed in me is my respect for actors as I am realising that these actors give back-to-back releases, and how difficult it could be for them to nail it. I am surprised by how legendary actors like Manoj Bajpayee and Pankaj Tripathi perform in each of their projects.”

Speaking about his upcoming release, Selfiee, he plays the character of a helpless producer in the film. It is slated to release on Friday 24. Directed by Raj Mehta, it is an official remake of a Malayalam film, Driving Licence.
