Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar has directed a bunch of noteworthy Bollywood films. Among them is Fashion, starring Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut. While the story gave a peek into India’s emerging, formidable fashion industry, the music album of the film also bagged an equal amount of love, thanks to the musician duo Salim-Sulaiman. However, the journey was not so easy for them to create the album for the film, especially the title track.
EXCLUSIVE: Salim-Sulaiman recall challenges they faced for Fashion’s title track: “Madhur Bhandarkar told us ‘yaar kuch jalwa karde’”, watchIn an exclusive music room interview with Bollywood Hungama, the Merchant brother took a stroll down memory lane and recalled the challenges they faced to create the title track. While Sulaiman recalled they kept trying to find suitable words for the word fashion, Salim called it a “disastrous” experience. Salim recalled, “I invited this problem as I suggested that the title track should have the word ‘Fashion’ in it. The word itself has a lot of restrictions. In addition, we had to create a song on it for the Indian masses.”
Sulaiman continued and remembered that once Madhur came to the studio and told him - kuch Jalwa kar de. On this, Salim added, “Madhur have a habit of saying jalwa.” So the duo picked it up and called it the ‘Jalwa’ song. He also shared that it used the same framework as the song ‘Mar Jaava’ in the film.
They also spoke about how Bhandarkar gave them the freedom to create Fashion’s music album.
