Going by Salim Merchant and Sulaiman Merchant’s repertoire, the duo have always balanced entertainment and creative satisfaction. From TV ads and jingles to getting nominated for Emmy, the Merchant brothers have created a niche for themselves. Among others, Kurbaan is an album which is dearly remembered by their fans.

Recently, in a music room interview with Bollywood Hungama, Salim-Sulaiman candidly opened up about working on Kurbaan. While talking about the film, Sulaiman explained how he and his brother have two different palettes after reading a script and they create a song by mixing them. He further added that when a director comes into the picture, they come with a different point of you, and with these trial-and-error series, they make a song.

Salim asserted, “Speaking about Kurbaan, it was all because of the script. The first song itself depicts Saif’s reading namaz and expressing his gratitude to God for finding his love. He completes his prayer and gets up in the scene. That’s where the song starts.”

He further added, “It was written in the script so I just felt like we should start with Shukran Allah (which means thanking god in Urdu). Actually, it was supposed to be a love song. Karan (Johar) wanted something like ‘Jiya Dhadak Dhadak Jaaye’.”

He elaborated by saying how adding ‘Shukran Allah’ changed the mood of the entire melody. Released in 2009, Kurbaan featured Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead.
