Radhika Apte is set to return in a gripping new avatar with Saali Mohabbat, Tisca Chopra’s directorial debut, which releases on ZEE5 on December 12, 2025. Speaking exclusively to Bollywood Hungama, the actress opened up about what drew her to the atmospheric drama thriller and her personal connection with the character she plays.
Apte said the film’s tone and structure were unlike anything she had encountered in the genre. “Saali Mohabbat is not like any other crime thriller that expects you to have a fast-paced action film. It’s a slow burner; it’s calm, still, and very atmospheric,” she explained. Describing it as a “how-dunnit” rather than a “whodunnit,” she added, “It explores the character and the character’s relationships, and it investigates the core question: Do we really know the people we think we know? I thought it was very intriguing, and it was a very different kind of thriller, which is why I decided to do it.”
The film, headlined by Apte alongside Divyendu Sharma and Anurag Kashyap, follows complex emotional undercurrents rather than conventional genre beats — something Apte says is reflected in her character as well. While the role carries “a lot of heaviness and intensity,” she found herself drawn to a more gentle aspect of the woman she portrays. “There’s also a lightness to her — someone who gets happy easily, someone for whom it takes nothing to feel joy,” she shared. “There’s a kind of innocence to her, and I think that’s what I connected with most.”
