Last week’s release, Do Deewane Seher Mein, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Mrunal Thakur, has received appreciation from the audience. Moviegoers, who ventured out to see the film on the big screen, were surprised to see the mention of Rohan Sippy in the opening disclaimer under 'Special Thanks'. It also made them curious, as there’s no visible connection of the filmmaker with the film, except the fact that just like Rohan’s much-loved flick Bluffmaster (2005), Do Deewane Seher Mein is also spectacularly shot in the Mumbai monsoons.
We tried contacting Do Deewane Seher Mein’s director, Ravi Udyawar, but he was unavailable for comment. Bollywood Hungama then exclusively spoke to Rohan Sippy and he revealed, “I was earlier going to produce a film which ultimately got made as Love Per Square Foot (2018). One of the titles I had registered for that film was Do Deewane Sheher Mein.”
Rohan Sippy added, “Then, I got a call from Prerna Singh, who works with Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She asked me about the title and we told them that we are no longer using it. They asked if they could use the title for their film and we gave it to them. That’s it; no drama (laughs).”
Love Per Square Foot was ultimately produced by Ronnie Screwvala and directed by Anand Tiwari of Bandish Bandits and Bad Newz (2024) fame. It starred Vicky Kaushal and Angira Dhar and was one of the first Indian original films to release directly on Netflix. It told the story of two bank employees who apply under a housing scheme to fulfill their dream of having their own abode in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Do Deewane Seher Mein is the tale of two opposite individuals who fall in love after meeting through an arranged marriage setup.
At present, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is gearing up for his ambitious venture, Love & War, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. On February 24, he celebrated his birthday, while on February 25, there were reports that he suffered a heart attack. His team quickly released a statement that clarified, “Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali is doing absolutely fine. He has gone in for a routine medical check-up and there is no cause for concern. We sincerely appreciate the love, care, and concern shown by everyone. Thank you for your continued support and warm wishes.”
