EXCLUSIVE: Rahul Dev remembers Awara Paagal Deewana: “I always tell Vikram Bhatt, ‘make more comedies'”; talks about 1920: Horrors Of The Heart: “Mujhe laga tha ki woh film ek din nahin chalegi but it worked”

en Bollywood News EXCLUSIVE: Rahul Dev remembers Awara Paagal Deewana: “I always tell Vikram Bhatt, ‘make more comedies'”; talks about 1920: Horrors Of The Heart: “Mujhe laga tha ki woh film ek din nahin chalegi but it worked”

In Rahul Dev’s debut film Champion (2000), a man wears his mask and gets killed, giving the impression to the audience, albeit temporarily, that his character Nazeer has died. 2 years later, in Awara Paagal Deewana (2022), Rahul Dev’s character Vikrant also goes through a similar journey – an impostor dies, only for the real Vikrant to emerge later on. This writer remarked this amusing coincidence to Rahul Dev while speaking exclusively with Bollywood Hungama about his 25th anniversary as a film actor.

Rahul Dev was fascinated by this comparison and admitted, “I didn’t realize that both films had this similarity.” On Awara Paagal Deewana, he said, “I remember that film very well. Vikram Bhatt and I have done six projects together. He is a very good man and he has a straight-faced sense of humour. I always tell him, ‘Yaar, tu comedy bana’.”

Rahul continued, “He’s close to my heart. He’s landed in a major problem right now. Kisi wajah se fas gaya hai. I don’t exactly know what has happened. I have not been in touch with him for a fairly long time.”

He also stated, “My last film with him was 1920: Horrors Of The Heart (2023); it was directed by his daughter, Krishna Bhatt. Woh film chal gayi thi. Mujhe laga tha ki woh film ek din nahin chalegi! He added one song, ‘Lori’. I was like, ‘When I was a child, I heard Mehboob saab singing this lullaby. Who in the world will listen to it today?’. But ‘Lori’ was a rage. The film revived their fortunes. It was the daughter’s luck also. I used to watch her coming from piano lessons during Footpath (2003). I was very proud when she directed me.”

Rahul Dev then revealed, “Emraan Hashmi’s first film was Footpath. He got the maximum praise for it. But did you know that it was Vikram who dubbed for Emraan? He has diverse talents.”

Lastly, we asked Rahul Dev about his film, Adharm, based on the real-life events of the Sikh massacre at Chittisinghpura, Kashmir, on March 20, 2000. Rahul Dv said, “Adharm never released sadly. In fact, even Nawazuddin Siddiqui was in the film.”

Its songs were played frequently on television and hence have a recall value for a section of old-timers. However, Rahul Dev confessed, “It was a very busy phase. So, I never got a chance to see its assets on TV.”
