Lollapalooza India 2024 provides the perfect backdrop for you to connect, groove, and create memories with your gang with the festival’s infectious energy. Amongst the line-up is the ever-so fantastic Raghu Dixit as he brings The Raghu Dixit Project to the grand festival, promising a memorable performance.
The Indian singer, composer, and producer has been the frontman for the Raghu Dixit Project for years. It is a multilingual folk music band that blends traditional Indian music with various genres like rock, pop, and world music. Dixit gained widespread recognition for his debut album Raghu Dixit Project, which was released in 2008. From soulful renditions like ‘Mysore Se Aayi’ to his last album Jag Changa, in 2013, his music continues to evolve, reflecting the nuances of his journey. Not only has he evolved as an independent artist, but his music has been part of films in multiple languages including the Hindi film soundtrack for Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge and Gully Boy’s ‘Train Song’.
As he heads into Lollapalooza 2024, the singer will also present some unreleased songs from his upcoming album. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Dixit said that they are planning to play a few songs from the upcoming album Shakhar which will have a grand release at O2 Shepherds Bush Empire in London later this year. He said, “The idea is to get a present three or four of the songs for the weekend, from the new album and the other four are legacy songs which people will not forgive me for if I don’t sing. So, it's a good mix of 50-50 new songs, old songs, and we're coming up with a special set for Lolla. Unfortunately, we are given only 45 minutes on stage, but I want to make it the best possible set for ourselves and for the memory of people who are attending the festival.”
He added, “We are getting Aayana Dance Company to collaborate with us. We are also getting folk dancers of Karnataka who are all students of service children of farmers and are now students of the Agricultural University in Bangalore. So those young boys will perform a couple of songs, and then there are lots of other elements like still dancers. So all of this is coming together with the lights, but visual, kind of hopefully, sun, will be kind to us and go down sooner than normal and allow us to present lights and visuals along with our set is an early sunset set. So I'm just a little worried that the lights will not work. But otherwise, yeah, visually, it's going to be stunning.”
Talking further about the performance, he added, “The band also will read a couple of guest artists, John Paul, who helped me write this album is coming on stage with us. There is an incredible percussionist, who plays both all the Indian classical percussion and also plays a lot of Latin and African compositions. So all of these guys are coming together. It will be a heavy pieced act.”

Talking about sustaining a long-lasting career in an industry often likened to fast food due to its competitiveness, Raghav said, “I think if a human being, standing on stage and playing an instrumental life and singing his heart out, will never go out of a fashion no matter what technology comes up, what kind of development, AI technology, etc comes over and takes over the industry. I don't think feelings will ever go out of fashion and therefore music, which expresses those human feelings will never go out of fashion. As long as you're doing right and putting it in a way that will stand out from the clutter and is unique and at the end, touching the souls, they will go out of relevance. If you're still feeling the feelings, therefore, art will survive. Those artists who work hard and stand out, do something truly original activity and at the same time, speak a language that connects with the younger generation or older generation, whatever, on a large scale, will be relevant forever, and will seem like really relevant for like last 30 years.
He concluded by saying, “In the notion of being relevant for so many years, we've seen MS Subbulakshmi being relevant for 50 or 60 years. There are enough examples we can pull out of artists who have not changed because the times are changing. But they have stayed in the hearts and continue to do so. They're doing it with belief absolute honesty and transparency on stage without any kind of debate. I think that's what has made them stand out.”
