After winning the Midnight Madness Award for her first film Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota at Toronto International Film Festival, Radhika Madan returned to the prestigious film festival for the World premiere of her upcoming film Kacchey Limbu. Speaking about the same with Bollywood Hungama, the actress shared some interesting details of the project.
Interestingly, when asked what the audience can expect from Kacchey Limbu, Madan asserted, “you can expect to relive your childhood a bit. You will always relate to it because this is unanimous what happens with your siblings. A lot of people came to watch our film at the premiere with their families and siblings, and they felt that they could relate to it a lot. It's going to remind you to have your childhood. It's gonna help you remind that it's never too late to find your voice and assert it.”
Later on, Radhika explained how she made a connection with her character in the film. She explained, “I have a lot of friends around me, I've seen a lot of people, especially while growing up. You know people who are not toppers, and they are not even failing any subject. They are in this in-between category. And they confuse what they want to do with their lives. They tend to follow whatever people around them tell them to follow, be it their parents or their friends or their siblings, whoever it is.”
As she continued further, Radhika added, “and to be very honest, in India, especially more than 90% of women don't have the luxury to have a dream, even to dream to even find their voice. It is already everything is already decided for them. So, for them to just find their voice and asserted, it's a journey. And I'm proud to say that our film speaks about that and doesn't preach. It just says it in such a subliminal way that you wouldn't feel attacked. And you will still think about this. So even if women or people even ask themselves this question - what is my voice? I think our job will be done.”
Recalling the preparation days for Kacchey Limbu, Radhika said, “There is an underarm cricket league that happens in Malad, in Bombay, which I went to see, to prepare for my character. I held the bat after 15-20 years, and I was surprised to see how my muscle memory remembers everything so it was really overwhelming and fun to revisit my childhood. We used to play for three hours every single day. I learned to bowl for the first time I'm playing a spinner in this one. So I learned to spin for the first time and that was really exciting.”
For the unversed, Kacchey Limbu is a coming-of-age drama. The Shubham Yogi directorial premiered at 47th Toronto International Film Festival this year.
