From dark-comedy to crime-thriller films, Bollywood actress Radhika Apte has never shied away from experimenting and trying different genres in films. After giving a stellar performance in Vikram Vedha, actress Radhika Apte is all set for the release of her next, titled Monica O My Darling.
During an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, the acclaimed actress told us about the person who completely backed her when she started out as an actor. “My mother backed me in this,” she shared. “I’m so grateful to her. She really, really backed me. She wanted to be an actor.”
“Friends were always supportive, like my close friends,” she added. “My dad thought I shouldn’t do that. I still thinks I shouldn’t do that. But he’s very excited about me trying to write or me trying to make things. I hate to admit it, he never watches my interviews, but his friends sometimes send things to him.
She further shared, “He’s partially right, I see where he comes from because he always used to think that ‘You’re not using your brain’ and ‘You are fairly intelligent person and you’re wasting your aptitude.’ And I was like ‘No, filmmaking does require brain.’”
Telling us about the one film her father liked, Radhika said, “So there are two films: Gho Mala Asla Hava with Sumitra Bhave and with Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury I had done this film called Antaheen, which is a Bengali film. And they both released on the same day and my dad saw the Konkani one.”
She continued, “And that’s when he’d called me and said that ‘I’m so proud of you, it’s so good.’ That’s what he said but then he changes his mind all the time.” Speaking of Monica O My Darling, the film is slated to release on November 11 exclusively on Netflix. The Vasan Bala directorial also features Rajkummar Rao and Huma Qureshi. Radhika will be seen playing the character of a cop.
