Over the years, PVR INOX Pictures, the motion picture arm of PVR INOX Limited, has distributed some interesting films, including the Tom Hanks-starrer Here, the Academy Award favourite Conclave, the critically acclaimed White Bird, and From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina, among others. In recent times, they distributed the hot Oscar favourite, Nuremberg, the highly awaited Now You See Me: Now You Don't, The Smashing Machine, which featured Dwayne Johnson in a never-before-seen avatar, etc. On December 12, they’ll release Christmas Karma, directed by Gurinder Chadha of Bend It Like Beckham (2002) and Bride And Prejudice (2004) fame. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, the young and enterprising Nayana Bijli, Lead: Distribution and Licensing, PVR INOX Limited, spoke about the future plans and a lot more.
Nayana Bijli promised that their slate next year is something to watch out for, “We have a very exciting 2026, beginning with Marty Supreme, Greenland 2: Migration and Housemaid. We are releasing a Malayalam film, Chatha Pacha, which deals with wrestling. Hence, January is looking particularly exciting for us thanks to these 4 movies.”
Nayana also stated, “Last week, we released Eternity and I urge everyone to watch it. It’s a beautiful film. We also released Gustaakh Ishq. Hence, it was a packed quarter, while January also would be busy.”
A film that stands out in their slate is Your Letter, a Korean anime film. With the increase in demand for Korean as well as anime films, will PVR INOX be focusing on these genres? Also, with the Korean live-action flick No Other Choice making waves, can we expect the potential Oscar winner to get a release in India courtesy PVR INOX?
Nayana Bijli revealed, “Anime does really well for us. We want to be part of the reason why anime is growing in popularity and has increasing exposure in India. Hence, we’ll keep our ears to the ground. No Other Choice is one of the films that we have been closely tracking. Once we know that a film has done well, we try and approach it as much as we can and if it's available, we get it for India release.”
She added, “For every market we go to, we keep our eyes and ears open. We don’t restrict ourselves to any genre anymore. If this year has taught us anything, it’s that anything can work, be it Saiyaara, Mahavatar Narsimha, Laalo, etc. The same applies to international titles as well.”
The conversation ended with this week’s big release, Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh. When asked about her thoughts on the action entertainer, Nayana answered, “That film is going to be a big one. Dhurandhar and Avatar: Fire And Ash are going to be defining films this December, the two tentpole titles that will bring people in. Personally, Dhurandhar seems like a very exciting film fit for the big screen. I am confident that it’s going to bring in the numbers as well.”
