Netflix just dropped the teaser of its upcoming anthology Lust Stories 2, the second film in the franchise. Among the various actors, the one that stands out from it is Neena Gupta. Her character appears like a traditional woman from her attire and mannerisms, but she doesn’t shy away from boldly talking about matters related to sex.
Speaking about the character of the veteran actress, Lust Stories 2 producer Ashi Dua told Bollywood Hungama, “That’s the whole beauty of a modern Indian woman. Just because you are wearing a traditional saree or you are religious and you pray, which she is, doesn’t mean that your thought-process is that way or your ideas and ideology have to be the same. Here is a modern Indian woman who respects her religion, the femineity of her character, yet she has these modern views on life. And that is who Neena Gupta is actually in real life.”
The casting ensured that it was “fabulous” for Ashi Dua to work with her on this project. “She just came, and owned the character that was written for her,” she said. “And now when we watch it, we keep thinking that we could have literally not thought of anybody else except her. She just dwells into her character so passionately and that’s what shows on screen. And hopefully that will show when you watch the film.”
The first film in the franchise released in 2018. Lust Stories 2 has four stories directed by Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap. It has a long list of cast that includes Kajol, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vijay Varma, Neena Gupta, Kumud Mishra, Tillotama Shome, Mrunal Thakur, Amruta Subhash and Angad Bedi.
Lust Stories 2 will stream on Netflix from June 29.
