Shashwat Singh is the voice behind some of the chartbuster songs in Bollywood including ‘Mere Sawal Ka’ from Shehzada and ‘Show Me The Thumka’ from Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. Recently in an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Shashwat Singh talked about working on these two tracks while recalling the start of his singing career. Besides this, he also opened up on working with established artists such as AR Rahman, Arijit Singh and Pritam.
When asked if singing ‘Mere Sawal Ka’ was pressuring given that the tracks of the original film, Ala VaikunthapurramulooI, were a huge hit, Singh asserted, “I wouldn't say it was pressurising. As an artist, we always try to give our 100 percent because all of us want the audience to appreciate our work. Definitely, there is a standard to maintain. Speaking of Pritam da, I don't know who is better than him in the industry. He has given us back-to-back hits. If he is confident, the song will definitely perform well. And, on the other hand, Rohit Dhawan was constantly there to guide me. His involvement was throughout the making of the song. It was a very pleasant thing because it is very less likely to have the film directors be present during the making of a song. He was there for 2-3 sessions of ‘Mere Sawal Ka'. All and all, it was dealt with in a very professional way.”
As the conversation progressed further, Shashwat also shared his experience of making ‘Show Me The Thumka’ for TJMM. He said, “Just like Rohit, Luv Ranjan was also involved in the making. He personally praised me and told me that he likes it the way I am doing it and he wanted me to keep giving my 100 percent,” while calling it "mazedar" experience.
When asked if working with Arijit Singh and AR Rahman in the initial years of his singing career has helped him, Shashwat, without any pause, said, “Definitely. I got my first break from AR Rahman through Tamasha. I got a small portion of Arijit Singh's song ‘Wat Wat’. So I have been very lucky from the beginning that I got to work with such legendary artists. Meanwhile, it also feels like a responsibility since I have worked with such legendary artists. Journey bahut blessed rahi hai ki mujey aise opportunities miley hai and multiple times miley hai. So touchwood, it keeps going this way.”
Concluding his take on his journey, the 32-year-old singer said, “I can say that the journey has been satisfying, it is going well and my career is stable too… hahaha…”
